Grass Ring

{Grass Ring}

Here is an interesting piece. Its literally a chia pet for your finger. A grass ring. Hafstein Julius is the designer behind this mind boggle. Perfect for your city dweller friend who never gets to smell the grass!

It was so unique I had to share. Do you think he'll come up with little garden gnomes to stake into the ring?!

Heart Shaped Lips

As if I don't already have an undying love for Marie Antoinette and all things French, the heart shaped lips will forever be a love of mine. In collage I remeber my roommate and I must have done a 2 hour photo shot on all the different takes of a "heart shaped" lip. We were trying out our best impressions of being a porcelain doll. Her hair was black and mine was pink. We were quite the pair.

The simple things you do to entertain yourself.

There was another shoot that involved polaroids and using pipe-cleaners (yes, the colored ones for art projects) as mustaches and toilet papering our boyfriends' house while they had band practice.

Ink On My Fingers

{It begins}

Literally, tears filled my eyes at first by the beauty of this photograph, and that was before I even read the title. A fellow 'e-course classmate' of mine posted a link to this amazing blog. The woman is Susannah Conway and I am so inspired by all of her photography and writings. What started off as a time in her life of tragedy, losing the man she loved, really has grown into something truly creative, beautiful and raw.

I'll be checking in on her for inspiration regularly!

Bones of a Poet '~Yes!'

{Photography by Madelyn Mulvaney}

Could this photograph be any more captivating? I stumbled upon it over on the SouleMama blog and it was posted for an e-course hosted by Madelyn Mulvaney. After seeing this inspiring picture I had to dig deeper. Well, I dug and was immediately overwhelmed with the feeling that I had to sign up and take this course.

It is exactly what I've been looking for. Something to jump start my creativity again and get me out of my head and back to my hands creating. The course started today and I couldn't be more excited. It's all about journaling for our inner selves along with some photography prompts to go along with the weekly assignments.

At some moments, I feel so lost and alone. When you become a Mom your days are spent caring for everything else, except yourself. I'm the last on the list, and usually I'm too tired to even think about it. Friends who don't have kids don't understand. And slowly, the circle of people you used to be close with grows smaller and smaller. However, life does grow fuller and fuller. Watching my son grow has been one of the most delightful and unexplainable things I've ever experienced. Surprises around the corner daily and the unexpected because the new normal. However, I have moments of what feels like mourning the person I used to be. A lonely feeling. Wondering if I will ever be able to do 'me' again and find the woman I'm supposed to be now.

This workshop couldn't have come at a better time. Everyone who has introduced themselves so far, well, it seems as though we are all standing together over this precipice holding hands and waiting to jump in. I am not alone! Its affirmation, after affirmation, after affirmation that I'm exactly where I should be. That most anyone who is a mother or wears multiple hats has that same 'what happened to me?' feeling and I feel overwhelmed with gratitude that I stumbled into this amazing group being lead by an amazing artist I can't wait to explore further.

Design Your Own Fabric

{Custom Fabric}

I have ALWAYS wanted to design my own fabric. I usually have a specific idea in mind and its always impossible for me to ever find the right pattern! This little company, Bonbon Kakku, looks really cool. You can upload designs, they have contests you enter and you shop other people's designs as well. When I have the time I want to put a few designs on there.

Butterfly Hair Comb

{Cocoon II}

How lovely is this? The Butterfly Comb is hand created by Whichgoose over on Etsy. Check her out. She has some really amazing + beautiful hair pieces. I love the line and spirit of the pieces.

Kors Me Please

{Horn-Bracelet Watch}

I found what I want for my birthday! This watch by Michael Kors is gorgeous! I haven't seen anything like it. Hopefully this blog post will be a big enough hint for my hubby!

I'm dying to take her home.

Man Shops Globe; My new addiction!

{Man Shops Globe}

As if I wasn't already addicted to all things lovely at Anthropologie... This Sundance channel show, Man Shops Globe, is by far my new favorite. I could watch the episodes over and over. If you haven't seen it already, DVR it or click your OnDemand button now! Keith Johnson truly has the most amazing job. I would love nothing more than to travel the world hunting flea markets and street fairs to find treasures. Anthro is my inspiration mecca, my "happy place" that I love to wander (and wonder) off in to recharge and get new ideas. The endless creativity of their window and store displays never let me down.

Scott Campbell's Burn Book

{Calavera Burn Book}

A Brooklyn based artist, Scott Campbell, is taking the meaning of "old school" to a new level. He is known for tattoos but is putting his artistic skills to further use. Available online at The Future Perfect. These intricate laser cut books would look amazing anywhere... on a bookshelf, coffee table, bedside table or just in my own studio for inspiration!

A Beautiful Quilted Laptop Case

{Quilted Laptop Case}

I think this is so clever. Pam Garrison crafted this simple and fantastic laptop case by sewing on "panels" of fabric to an existing case. I am forever in search of a great bag to put my laptop in and still have yet to find it. This is definitely a project I'd like to do! My only problem is its impossible to find a pre-made case for a 17 inch laptop.

DIY T-Rex

{DIY lamp}

My little boy would love to get his hands on one of these DIY dinosaur lamps created by ThinkGeek. They have a Triceratops,  Diplodocus and a T-rex. I think the Diplodocus wants us to bring him home.

Freshly Fallen Fall Leaves

{fall leaves circa 2008}

I had to take a quick break to give a shout out to Fall! By far my favorite season. The scarves, hats, boots, sweet apple chamomile tea, comforters, slippers, sweaters, dark mornings, gathering for holiday DIY projects, leaves, wreaths, pine cones, family, warmth...

How sweet it is.

Wedding Re-cap (or catch up!)

I know this is long, long, loooooong over due... but better late than never! We kicked off the wedding weekend with a Casino Cruise. It was a great way for all of our guests to get to know each other & have a blast before the big day.

Everything turned out great with the wedding. Of course "behind the scenes" was a little bit of a different story. I had a horrible time with the event planner I hired at the last minute. She canceled my "preview" appointment. I never saw a linen, table centerpiece, chair, flower... nothing before the wedding. To be honest she never even returned my phones calls and I had no idea if she was even going to show up.

But, she did, with her attitude in tow as though she was paying me. The flowers were all wrong, the colors, the quality (I actually had petals with brown on them!). However to the naked eye (the non-brides there), everything appeared more than perfect. That's the kicker with expectations, right? The cake was completely different than it was supposed to be, the band was minus one player during the ceremony (the saxophone which was my ONE request). However they made up for it during the reception and they were great.

Our ceremony site was great. It was held at a gorgeous estate, Palm Valley Gardens. Dark wood floors, stone walls, reclaimed wood beams. You can't beat it. Our photographers, Lynnell & Andy Hayes, from Hayes Photography were awesome. Can't wait to have that album in hand! We blew up a few of our engagements photos and had those displayed throughout the house.

Our other saviors, Rachel and Michael Deremer from The Perfect Pear, really did an amazing job. The food was unbelievable and the service even more fantastic. Rachel was the one calming my nerves and reassuring me everything would turn out great. And lighting my million tea lights!

For our fun touches we created a make shift "photo-booth" in one of the walk-in closets using a backdrop, stool and a MAC computer with the photo-booth application. Those are by far the best photos (and the most blog-inappropriate!). The mustache bar pulled out all the stops & really got the party started.

It all flew by in a flash like everyone warns you about. Which is very, very sad (there wasn't a dry eye either). All that work and it feels like very little play! By the time we were finished with our "after ceremony portraits" it felt like the night was already almost over. I wish you were able to have it as your wedding, yet be there as a guest too.

At least we have the pictures and the amazing memories of having all of our loved ones under the same roof. Which, by far, was the most mind blowing part of it all. If you know me, I have moved all over these united states of ours. To have my different friend groups from different places all together, all finally meeting each other, I felt truly grateful for my amazing friendships that have held strong over the years.

More details to follow! We are awaiting the photography CD which should be here in the next few days.
