This was one of my self portraits for my '~Yes' course and I was playing around with different layers + textures so I thought I would share.

I have discovered such a powerful, raw + truthful space compliments of the ANTHROPOLOGiST. Its an online showcase of a few choice artists and their process' along with present work.

I feel soooo inspired and filled by all that I have seen on here. I've been a fan of Andrew Zuckerman and his simplicity in short film making with deeply profound universal messages.

I've discovered an amazing powerful woman artist in director Jane Campion. I'm really looking forward to discovering more from her.

But the artist that has touched me most is the lovely scrapbook collection of David Eustace and his daughter Rachael as they embarked on a 3 week road trip "In Search of Eustace" across the U.S. The pure essence that comes with this father + daughter relationship & their beautiful documentation of the simple act of driving is beyond memorable.

The quiet moments we have with our children are fast and fleeting. The beauty of this trip that they took makes me think about how fast I will watch my son grow and become a man.

I can remember a road trip my Mother once took me one. It was to visit a great Aunt of mine (more like an ex-wife of my great grandfather; so I've always called her "Aunt" for lack of labels) starting at her home in Wyoming. We saw the Grand Tetons, ate endless cookies, watched the buffalo roam in Yellowstone (where we became snowed in for 3 days; another adventure in itself). It was magical to me and something I will never forget even though I couldn't have been more that 11 or 12 years old at the time.

I look forward to adventures like that with my son + husband.

Memories that last a lifetime and the stories just get better the longer they have to marinate.

I feel refreshed after soaking up these awe-inspiring artists.

Victorian Collar DIY

{DIY Victorian Collar}

This is so lovely and beautiful! I finally broke down and bought myself a sewing machine. My cousin sent me the link to this amazing collar from a fellow blogger and it's going to be my 2nd sewing project! My hands have been aching for something creative + it feels great to be tangible with things.  

 

I'm experimenting with the fabric and trying a lace that I found. Not sure if it will lay exactly right, but the smaller version of the collar in lace would be amazing I think!

I'll upload and post pictures of my first maiden sewing project I did last night. It's a colorful pillow with yellow lemons on the fabric and blue pom-pom trim. 

Very cheerful + fun! 

A Monkey's Fist

A fellow friend of mine over in my '~Yes' workshop loved this as much as I did. This little rope knot is called a Monkey's Fist. I have it hanging off my work desk in my studio. Often times I find myself getting to the end of my rope. There is always 'something' else or 'someone' else taking me into a flurry of nothing to do with 'me'.

I've just gotta tie a knot, grab on for dear life and hope the blood in my arms will return enough to pull myself back up!

Grass Ring

Here is an interesting piece. Its literally a chia pet for your finger. A grass ring. Hafstein Julius is the designer behind this mind boggle. Perfect for your city dweller friend who never gets to smell the grass!

It was so unique I had to share. Do you think he'll come up with little garden gnomes to stake into the ring?!

Heart Shaped Lips

As if I don't already have an undying love for Marie Antoinette and all things French, the heart shaped lips will forever be a love of mine. In collage I remeber my roommate and I must have done a 2 hour photo shot on all the different takes of a "heart shaped" lip. We were trying out our best impressions of being a porcelain doll. Her hair was black and mine was pink. We were quite the pair.

The simple things you do to entertain yourself.

There was another shoot that involved polaroids and using pipe-cleaners (yes, the colored ones for art projects) as mustaches and toilet papering our boyfriends' house while they had band practice.

Ink On My Fingers

{It begins}

Literally, tears filled my eyes at first by the beauty of this photograph, and that was before I even read the title. A fellow 'e-course classmate' of mine posted a link to this amazing blog. The woman is Susannah Conway and I am so inspired by all of her photography and writings. What started off as a time in her life of tragedy, losing the man she loved, really has grown into something truly creative, beautiful and raw. 

I'll be checking in on her for inspiration regularly!
